In California, time is running out for new solar & battery projects. SGIP battery incentive funding continues to dwindle rapidly. And a recent proposed decision from the CPUC could wipe out the economic value of new solar projects. Thus it is imperative to get interconnection and incentive applications submitted as soon as possible for new projects!

As you can see from the chart above, we’ve seen a tremendous amount of activity in the SGIP Battery Incentive Program over the past year. Given the rich incentive levels, and substantial battery project demand, funding for this incentive program is expected to be fully subscribed in 2022. Here is a look at the current remaining SGIP Battery Incentive Funding available to commercial-scale battery projects as of January 3, 2022:THE LATEST UPDATE ON NET ENERGY METERING

As referenced in our recent article, just before the holidays, the CPUC released their proposed decision regarding changes to California’s Net Energy Metering (NEM) Program. NEM is the program which enables behind-the-meter / rooftop energy systems (like solar) to earn credits for exporting electricity to the grid. Among other substantial changes, the proposed decision includes a substantial discount to the value of exported electricity and only a 10-year guarantee that the rules of the new program won’t change. A final decision could be in place as early as January 27, 2022, with the expected sunset of the current NEM program following 4 months later (around May 2022).
