TerraVerde Energy is pleased to announce its new partnership with Desert Community Energy on bringing an innovative solar & battery program to Palm Springs.
Desert Community Energy (DCE) is a Joint Powers Authority comprised of the cities of Palm Desert and Palm Springs which was formed to offer a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program. Community Choice Aggregation allows cities and counties to pool or aggregate their buying power to purchase electricity on a region-wide basis, to offer competitive rates to their customers with the option of purchasing power from greener sources. DCE launched and began serving customers in Palm Springs in April 2020.
Late last year, DCE administered a competitive process looking for qualified firms to bring forward their proposals to support the design and implementation of a customer program that would deliver added savings and resiliency to customers, while simultaneously enhancing peak load management strategies, advancing decarbonization strategies, and supporting statewide efforts to improve overall grid health. Through this solicitation process, TerraVerde Energy was awarded a contract to partner with DCE on this program.
TerraVerde is an independent consulting firm that supports CCAs and other public agencies with developing energy projects and programs. Since 2009, they have developed over $500 million worth of energy projects on behalf of their clients, including more than 150 megawatts of distributed solar & battery systems. Their innovative Distributed Power Purchase Agreement Program uniquely aligns CCA and customer interests on behind-the-meter solar & battery projects, which provide financial benefits to both CCAs & customers while enhancing local sustainability, increasing energy resiliency, and meeting critical needs of the electric grid. Over the coming months, TerraVerde & DCE will be working together to engage customers and develop projects. Learn more about this program in TerraVerde’s recent article The Distributed PPA Program for CCAs.
